It is important to recognize that there are differences between the functionality of Canvas’ Quizzes and New Quizzes tools. When deciding which tool best suits your needs, be sure to review the table below and the information available at New Quizzes Feature Comparison and New Quizzes: FAQ.
The New Quizzes tool and (Classic) Quizzes tool are both available in Canvas and you can choose which quizzing tool you prefer to use. The (Classic) Quizzes tool is no longer being updated with new functionality. New Quizzes will continue to receive updated functionality over time.

Alternative Tool Options
For needed grading features that do not appear in either of these quiz options, the CTI also has an alternative assessment tool that may be of interest to instructors called Gradescope. This is more of a fast grading tool than a quiz tool but provides unique features such as:
- the ability for students to submit a scanned copy of their test using a specific template
- faster bulk grading options for large courses by multiple TA’s simultaneously and by question if needed
- quick rubric creation to guide TA’s in quality grading
- retroactive grading adjustments to auto-apply to all submissions
- assisted grading using artificial intelligence (does not auto-grade like Canvas quiz tools)
