Poll Everywhere, a classroom response system supported by Cornell, can be used to award points to students for responding to your questions. You can post those points to your Canvas course.
After you have asked a Poll Everywhere activity in class, you can upload students’ record of responses to your Canvas course Gradebook.
Create a Poll Everywhere Gradebook Report:
- Go to the Reports page in your Poll Everywhere account:
https://www.polleverywhere.com/reports - Click “Create report”, choose “Gradebook”, and click the “Continue” button.
- Find the questions you asked in class in your Activities folders for which you want to record attendance.
NOTE for people who are NOT the instructor, such as teaching assistants or course administrators:
You will first click “Shared with Me” and find the shared folder your instructor shared in your Poll Everywhere team. - Click the check box next to each question to include in the report. Be sure to include only the questions that were asked during lecture.
- Click the “Create report” button.
- If you are the person who presented these questions, you will see the results and student names.
NOTE for people who are NOT the instructor, such as teaching assistants or course administrators:
You will now click “Select Presenters” and choose the name of the instructor who presented the questions to see the responses. - Rename the report to reflect the lecture date or topic, such as “Wed Sept 3” or “Astrology: Fact or Fiction? Discussion” and click “Done” to reload the report.
- To add these scores to Canvas, click the “Export” button.
- Choose which option to upload:
Grade will upload the scores for any correct answers. If you did not ask any question that you se t a correct to, do not use this option.
Participation will upload scores for responses students have submitted for any question you asked, graded or not graded.
Attendance will upload a record of student attendance. If you have not set up Attendance yet, do not use this option. See our Poll Everywhere Attendance page for details. - Click “Next” and a new assignment will be created in your Canvas course, along with a new column in the Gradebook.
- Note that this new assignment will be visible to students in your Canvas course, but their grades will not be visible to them until you choose “Post grades” from the Canvas Gradebook column menu next to this new column name.
