Canvas Updates:

Discussion Redesign

The redesigned discussion in Canvas, which is enabled by default, will be the defacto option in Canvas after July 20, 2024. If you have not explored this feature yet, please see the How do I use Discussions Redesign guide.

Using and Sharing Quiz Item Banks

Updates to the New Quiz Item Banks allow you to share your question bank with other users and courses. See How do I share an item bank in New Quizzes? for details.

Improved Submission Date Visibility for Students

Students are sometimes unsure of whether their assignment submission has been received in Canvas. To help clarify this, Canvas now has a Submitted column on the students’ Grades page that includes the date and time of the most recent submission. See How Do I Know My Assignment is Submitted? for details.

Gradescope Updates:

New Canvas Integration features:

On May 21st, Gradescope integration with Canvas will be upgraded. If you want to reuse your previously created assignments, you will need to duplicate and convert your linked Gradescope assignments.

  1. Duplicate your previous Gradescope course
  2. Link this new duplicated Gradescope course to your new Canvas course
  3. Link the copied Canvas assignments to their corresponding Gradescope assignments
  4. Sync your Canvas Course Roster to Gradescope

Poll Everywhere Updates:

Auto Roster Sync

You can now choose to automatically synchronize your Poll Everywhere student roster with your Canvas course every day. See Poll Everywhere Auto Roster Sync for details and how to enable it in your Poll Everywhere settings.

Attendance Tracking with geolocation

You can choose to track student attendance, showing who is in the classroom and who is responding from remote locations. See Poll Everywhere Attendance for details and how to enable it for your course.

FeedbackFruits Updates:

New Look for Students in Group Member Evaluation and Peer Review:

Newly created assignments: All assignments that are created from scratch (i.e. not from a Template or Copy from Existing), after April 19, 2024 will automatically adopt the new user interface and workflow, offering the benefits of the redesigned tool.

Copying an existing assignment template or sending a copy of a template: Assignments copied from past versions will maintain their current review process. You will experience continuity and familiarity with the existing process.

After June 14, 2024:
Transition to new redesigns: All copies of assignments and templates, regardless of their origin, will transition to the newly redesigned user interface. Users will no longer have the option to revert to the old version, ensuring consistency across all assignments.
